Privacy Policy

Qwil is a calm place to read scripture with a companion tuned to how you read. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.

Who we are

Qwil (“Qwil,” “we,” “us”) provides this service. For any privacy question, or to reach us in writing, contact us at privacy@qwil.app.

Information we collect

• Account information. Your name and email address when you create an account, plus a securely hashed password.
• Reading activity. Your place in the reading plan, chapters you mark done, highlights, memorization passages, and similar progress so the app works across your devices.
• Companion conversations. Messages you send to the AI companion and its replies, so your threads persist and stay in context.
• Social features. Friend connections and anything you choose to share with friends or in shared spaces.
• Billing information. If you subscribe, our payment processor (Stripe) collects and stores your payment details. We receive only limited data such as subscription status and the last four digits of your card — never your full card number.
• Usage and device data. Basic analytics about how the app is used (for example, sign-ins and feature usage) and technical logs needed to run and secure the service.

How we use information

• To provide and personalize the reader, companion, and social features.
• To sync your progress and account across devices.
• To process subscriptions, trials, and payments.
• To send service messages (for example, password resets and billing notices).
• To keep Qwil secure, prevent abuse, and comply with law.
• To understand aggregate usage so we can improve the product.

The AI companion

To generate companion replies, the content of your conversation is sent to a third-party large-language-model provider for processing. We do not sell your conversations, and we instruct our providers not to use your content to train their general models. Please avoid sharing sensitive personal information you would not want processed by a third party.

Service providers we share with

We share limited information with vendors who help us run Qwil, including:

• Stripe — payment processing and subscription management.
• Our email provider — transactional email delivery.
• Our AI provider — generating companion responses.
• Analytics and hosting providers — running and improving the service.

These providers may process your data only on our instructions. We do not sell your personal information.

Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data and associated content from our systems, except where we must retain limited records to meet legal, tax, or accounting obligations. Backups are purged on a rolling schedule.

Your rights and choices

• Access and correction. You can view and update your account details in the app.
• Deletion. You can permanently delete your account and its data from the app’s profile screen, or by emailing privacy@qwil.app.
• Regional rights. Depending on where you live (for example, the EEA, UK, or California), you may have additional rights to access, port, or object to processing of your data. Contact us to exercise them.

Children

Qwil is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and hashed passwords. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your data and to notify you of material breaches as required by law.

International transfers

We and our providers may process your information in countries other than where you live. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email.
